Dental Restorations – Fillings

Dental Fillings in Burlington, ON

In our office we prefer the term “restorations” rather than “fillings” when referring to filling a cavity because we are, in essence, restoring teeth to their natural shape and function. Cavities happen when plaque is allowed to build up, leading to tooth decay or a hole in the tooth.

What Happens at an Appointment

An anesthetic will be administered to numb the area surrounding the problem tooth. The decay is carefully removed and a tooth-coloured material is placed, shaped and bonded to the tooth.  We do not use mercury or metal for our restorations. The procedure is quick and easy.

Restore and Protect Your Smile with Gentle, Long-Lasting Fillings

At Beacon Hill Dental in Burlington, Ontario, we believe that even small dental issues deserve prompt, expert care. That’s why we offer high-quality, tooth-colored dental fillings to restore teeth affected by decay, cracks, or minor damage; quickly, comfortably, and discreetly.

Fillings aren’t just about fixing cavities. They’re about preventing small problems from turning into larger ones, preserving your natural tooth structure, and helping you enjoy a pain-free, confident smile.

What Are Dental Fillings?

Dental fillings are used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma. The decayed or weakened part of the tooth is removed, and the space is filled with a durable material that seals the tooth, prevents further damage, and restores its shape and function.

At Beacon Hill Dental, we use tooth-colored composite fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth; so no one will ever know you’ve had dental work done.

When Do You Need a Filling?

You may need a filling if you are experiencing:

  • A visible cavity or hole in your tooth

  • Tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets

  • A sharp pain when biting down

  • Dark spots or surface staining on a tooth

  • A chipped or cracked tooth

Even if you don’t have symptoms, routine dental checkups help us catch cavities early, when they’re easiest (and least expensive) to treat.

What Happens at a Filling Appointment?

Here’s what you can expect during your tooth filling procedure:

🦷 1. Exam & Diagnosis – We’ll examine your tooth, often with X-rays, to determine the extent of the decay or damage.
💉 2. Numbing the Area – A local anesthetic is used to ensure the treatment is completely painless.
🛠️ 3. Removing the Decay – The damaged or decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed.
🎯 4. Placing the Filling – A tooth-colored composite material is applied in layers, hardened with a special light, and then shaped and polished to match your natural tooth.

The entire procedure usually takes under an hour and requires little to no downtime.

Why Are Fillings Important?

Getting a filling is more than just patching a problem—it’s protective care. When left untreated, cavities can spread deeper into the tooth, leading to infections, severe pain, and the need for more complex procedures like root canals or extractions.

By catching decay early and placing a durable filling, we help you:

✅ Preserve your natural teeth
✅ Avoid pain and sensitivity
✅ Prevent infection and further damage
✅ Maintain the strength and function of your bite
